Wednesday - Heart and Home

Lately I have been feeling home sick.  I miss my mom and my sisters.  Soon we will be together for Thanksgiving and get to do the fun things I've been missing.  Walking up to my mother's cottage is her beloved garden.  My mom lives next door to my sister's gorgeous southern house.  The house looks like something out of Southern Living.  There are tall trees and colorful plants year round.  Everything is well manicured and breath-taking.  Mom has a way of nurturing her garden with love and beauty.

One of the things I love the most about visiting my mother is her cooking.  She makes the best foods out of simple ingredients.  She started cooking at the 7 years old.  As migrant workers, everyone had a job.  Hers was to have food ready when for the ones that were headed out to the fields for labor work.   My mom doesn't need recipes, she just takes a pinch of this and a dash of that.  Her foods are amazing.  In the Hispanic culture "Pan Dulce" (sweet bead) is common.  Back home we have several bakeries that make authentic Mexican pastries every day.  When I visit my mother she always picks up a fresh batch of sweet bread in the morning.  Breakfast is a huge fiesta that celebrates culture and love for family.  She serves up home-made Tex-Mex breakfast of bacon, roasted potatoes, fresh salsa, tamales, and fresh fruit.  YUMMY!

If you come to mom's house she will try to feed you.  I assure you will never leave hungry and she will send a carry-out plate with you.  I sincerely admire  her caring and genorosity. She opens her heart and her home to friends and family.  There is always room for one more person at mom's table.

  5. Hi Yoli,
Your mom sounds like my kind of gal! I love a good meal, and leftovers to take home! I've collected quite a few of the colorful platters like the one you show with the sweets on it, they each tell a story of our visits down south to diffrent areas of Mexico. I love them! Also, Tamales are one of my favorite foods, I envy you having home-made ones, lucky girl.
Thanks for linking today, and have a great Thanksgiving with your beloved family!
