October Fall Festivals

The day is starting out gorgeous with cool weather and my anticipation for fall festivities this weekend. Living in central Texas is great because I'm near large cities and small cozy towns. Every weekend there are festivals and fairs. I also like going to farmers markets and giving my business to local growers. There are also a lot of Wine & Music festivals all over the country. Autumn is my favorite season and I can't wait to enjoy the outdoor festivities.
.
One of my favorite pictures of my kids taken a several years ago.
.
Just down the road from my house is Gruene, Texas. Gruene a step back in history with vintage stores for shopping, eating, dancing, and spending the night. Gruene is on the National Register of Historic Places. If you're in the area be sure to go to to the Gruene Music and Wine Festival that starts October 7.
.
.
One day I would love to visit the New York City Wine & Food Festival. It would be amazing to see the celebrity chefs. Watching them on television is okay but I can only imagine their charisma in person. I'm drawn by the charm of Paula Deen, the creativity of Bobby Flay, and the energy of Guy Fierie. I equally like cooks and bakers, especially Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes.

Finding Myself

I love my babies, okay they are actually teenagers but they are my babies. Being their mother is the one thing that brings me the most joy. To see their smiles and have conversations with them is priceless. They fill my heart with love and give me purpose, yet sometimes I feel lost in the shuffle of single parenthood. It doesn't happen often but sometimes I can't find my space.
.
This weekend I'm going to make time to enjoy "me & God" time. It will be a time to walk around enjoying the creations of God, like people smiling and beautiful sceneries. I like take notice of simple things like a group of ants walking a trail so happy as they carry pieces of leaves. I love to see trees swaying in the wind as they change colors. It sound silly I know but I walked through most of my life not noticing the simple things. It took a long time for me to appreciate things. Thank God for age and wisdom. My plans are to go Saturday morning to an antique store or flea market. I'm going to a book store to feel the touch of vintage books and read the words of poets. I will go to a coffee shop to smell fresh coffee brewing and read my book. As I drive around, I will celebrate the work of God and rejoice in the gifts I have been given. When my time is up, I will rush back home because I know I will be home-sick for my kids.

The Paris Market in Savannah

.
Paula Danyluk opened The Paris Market & Brocante in Savannah. It is a two-level former grocery with beautiful, out-of-the-ordinary furniture and accessories. I would love to own something as beautiful some day. I could spend every day in a shop like Paula's. Be sure to go into her online store for a visit. I'm in central Texas so I can't just drive to Savannah, but I'm going to find a local market to visit this weekend.

Tuesday ~ Dream Big

.
I love the art work of Kelly Rae Roberts. I have bought some of her wall art plaques for my office. She makes the beautiful decorative art, wall-decor, stationary, necklaces, and so much more. Her work has precious girlies, so sweet and timeless. Her original art pieces incorporate inspirational words and poetry. Her work has been featured in a variety of mixed media books by her peers and she’s had several articles published in various magazines, including Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Life, Somerset Studios, Where Women Create, Memory Makers, and more. Much of her artwork is licensed and can be seen in stores nationwide on a variety of products, including cards, journals, magnets, decorative wall art, and more.
.
.
Kelly also offers several e-book series where she shares her knowledge that lead her to great success. She gives advice on how to sell original paintings, how to have an effective online presence, how to create and package prints/jewelry/originals, how to create a website and community, how to write books, and get published in several publications.

Monday ~ Purple Passion

This past weekend me and my 2 teen kids went back home to the Rio Grande Valley in deep south Texas. I spent the weekend with my grandmother who is aging fast. We don't know how much longer we have her so time is precious. She used to take care of me when I was a little girl. My kids went to their old high school to visit with friends. Friday night my son went the high school football game to watch the Weslaco Panthers. Saturday during the day we went to watch my nephews play youth football. The kids were so little and cute. They are all in elementary and had so much fun. My sisters and brother-in-laws are so awesome. They involve their kids in sports and they entire family gets involved coaching and supporting the teams.
.
.
I did make time to take my kids to the mall. My daughter loves Bath and Body Works. We both bought the Dark Kiss lotion and body spray. Seeing the display at Bath and Body Works of deep purples makes me now want to infuse some purple in my style.
.
.
I don't own a single piece of purple clothing or accessories. I don't even have purple decorations in the house. I'm on a mission to get some purple passion. Wouldn't be daring to find a deep purple leather jacket...wow!! I could also look for a purple purse or at the very least look for purple flowers to pin on my jackets. I found the purple pillows on Horchow online. I like to sew but that is a lot of detail work. Sometimes it is better for me to buy than to make.

Pink Saturday ~ Pink Pumpkins

Good Pink Saturday!  I couple of days ago I opted for an updated version of Blogspot.  I'm having problems learning how to use it. I was so used the the regular version where I could easily move pictures around.  It was so frustrating last night when I was trying to post the pictures of the pink pumpkins.  I am going to sit in front of the computer until I figure it out.  Wish me luck.

Go over to Pink Saturday to see more posts of pink!

Friday ~ Football Season

It is football season and it that means fun with family & friends!!   We are eating delicious finger foods, bbq, and cool drinks.  Don't even come around if you're on a diet because you will be tempted.  We've got buffalo wings, pizza, nachos, and burgers.  We might let a veggie tray sneak in the door but only if it has a side of ranch dip.

I was raised in a football lovin' family.  My dad was an NFL man who loved to watch the sport.  I remember watching football since a very young age.  I remember the power-house Pittsburgh Steeler, the awesome Washington Redskins, and my dad's favorite, the Dallas Cowboys.  My mom is a die-hard college football fan.  She knows the teams and players stats.  I think it is awesome that she gets so much into the game.  Living in Texas we are Texas Longhorn fans, but we can't help but love our Texas Aggie friends too.  And of course Texas High school Football is a legend.  We all grew-up being part of team and enjoying life under the Friday night lights.

Football season is  here!

Thankful Thursday ~ Welcome Autumn

I am so very thankful today for so many blessings in my life. My kids are happy and doing awesome in school. My mother is independent and healthy. My sisters are great and my best friends. My Aunt Connie is making good progress on her cancer recovery. Life as a single-mom of 2 teens is challenging but it is faith filled. Every moment is a walk of courage and enlightenment. It is a fun and sweet life. I try to grow from my mistakes, learn from my lessons, and build a strong relationships with God.
