Wednesday - A Hill Country View

Living in central Texas gives me the perfect opportunity to visit many of the Texas towns.  The Texas Hill Country is vast with natural attractions from rivers, plains, forests, lakes, and big open skies.  It is a place to be enjoyed.  On weekends, the roads are filled with bikers our for a drive, and lakes are filled with families enjoying the cool Texas waters.    There are Texas vineyards and hunting land.  Little towns are tucked away like gold waiting to be found.  Many visitors come to the Texas  Hill Country, a place that I now call my home.  There are seasonal events for shopping, crafter markets, and local produce vendors.  A couple of weeks ago I went to Wimberly, Texas.  It is a gorgeous recreational place where visitors can go hiking, fishing, swimming, camping, and shopping.  Here are some pictures of the Christmas decorations that I took during my last visit to Wimberly.

Questions  and Answers

1. What is your favorite way to eat chicken?  It is a toss up between Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad and Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken.  I love them equally the same.

2. Have you decorated for Christmas yet?  Just getting started.   I need to sort through closets to find all of the boxes.

3. What is your favorite article of clothing?  I like wearing shirts as jackets, over tank tops and accessorized with western jewelry.

4. Do you pay your bills online or write checks the old way?  I pay most of my bills online but there are a few that require the old-way.  I prefer online bill paying!  I guess if computers are ever to go down, it is a good thing to have checks on hand.

5. Do you make Christmas cookies?  Yes, we make very basic christmas cookies every year.

The Lord is Coming

The word Advent comes from the Latin word meaning "coming".  It is a time of special preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ.   Advent starts the Sunday nearest to the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle (30 November) and embracing four Sundays.  It is traditionally celebrated with prayer and fasting.  Advent is a time when we recall the history of God's people and how the prophecies and promises of the Old Testament were fulfilled.   We also look forward with understanding that our life too will be fulfilled by our salvation.   We celebrate with joy and anticipation.  During this time it is so easy to get caught up with decorations and gifts.  This year I am going to do be more thoughtful of the true meaning of Christmas in the things I do every day.  The coming of Christ is also about bringing Christ to other people.  I know I can do more by being kind to people, more patient at the stores, and donate to local charities.

Christmas Cheer

I have been waiting for the day after Thanksgiving to get excited about Christmas.  Don't take me wrong, I'm very blessed and thankful.  This year we spent Thanksgiving with family.  My kids and I are in south Texas with my mother and aunt.  We are having a good time with my sisters, who are my inspiration and best friends.  They open their homes to us and I know I always have someone count on.  They are beautiful women of faith.  I admire them and hope one day I can give them back as much as they have given me.

My kids and I will head back home to cooler weather.  There is a lot of Christmas shopping to get done.  When I get home we need to put up our Christmas decorations.  Here are some of my favorite Christmas things from my dream shop, Crows Nest Trading.

Merry Christmas to All

Happy Thanksgiving

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into God's presence with singing!  Know that the Lord is God! It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!  Give thanks to him, bless his name!  For the Lord is good;  his steadfast love endures for ever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Texas Hill Country

This past weekend it was "Girls Day Out" on Saturday, just my mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and I.  We had an early breakfast in Kyle, Tx and then drove to Wimberly, Tx in the beautiful Texas  Hill Country.  The weather was perfect.  The town center was decorated in havest colors of  oranges and golds.  Lots of shops already had their Christmas decorations up too.  We had such a fun and enjoyable time together, shopping, walking, and eating.   The river run through the town and log cabins line the river banks.  I can't wait to go back.

Monday Thanksgiving

Yeah, it is a short work week.  I'm looking forward to spending time with family for the holidays.  I'm feeling a little guilty because my mind is on Christmas, not as much on Thanksgiving.  The stores are packed with Christmas decorations and the pressure is on to buy the perfect gift.   I wish things were simple and peaceful.  Remember the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving?    We watched it every year when I was growing up, and still do now with my kidst.  I am very thankful for this past year so I'm going to really stop to take note of the blessings in my life.

1. How many pillows do you sleep with?  I sleep with 2 pillows.  This is not my bedroom but a girl can dream!

2. Where will you eat on Thanksgiving?  I will be at mother's house for Thanksgiving.  She is an awesome cook, making most dishes from scratch.  Oh, I can't wait.

3. Would you rather go to a party or host a party?  I prefer to go to a party instead of hosting.  I used to LOVE to host but with the moving around I have done the last 4 years, I'm never completely settled in anywhere.  BUT, once I get my dream Spanish-Cottage, I'm going to host parties on a regular basis.

4. How many purses (for the guys..wallets) do you own?  I own about 5 purses, most of the western.  LOVE the purse below, it is an American West brand.  Maybe Santa will remember me this year?

5. What is your favorite kind of seafood?   I'm allergic to shell fish so I only eat regular fish.  Talapia fish my favorite, pan grilled with extra pepper seasons and served with a fresh salad.
